Description
The first edification of the church dates back to the 12th Century; in 1673, the church was under the risk of collapse, so it has been renovated by architect João Nunes Tinoco, with the renovation being completed in 1720. The interior, of Mannerist and Baroque style, includes panels attributed to Bento Coelho da Silveira, the ceiling of the nave with brutesco paintings and the representation of Eucharistic symbols, notably the high quality gilded wood coverings in King João V style, namely in the presbytery, by the woodcarving masters Manuel de Brito, Félix Adaucto and Santos Pacheco.
