The chapel of the ancient Palace of the Marquises of Praia was built in 1839, by initiative of the then Marquis of Viana; it is currently known as the “Capela do Rato”, with echoes in the social and political memory for the vigil that took place here against the dictatorship and the war on the new year’s eve 1972-73. The temple, with a discrete entrance hall, has gone through some adaptations but maintains the work in gold and painted stucco, in a Neoclassical style. The chapel maintains a constant dialogue with art, temporarily hosting works of contemporary artists.
