Description
The church of the former Convent of the Hermits of Saint Paul of Sierra de Ossa, dedicated in 1680, received renovation works after the 1755 earthquake. The works were completed in 1763 and it became the parish church of Saint Catherine in 1835. It is a magnificent example of King João V Baroque, in particular through its gilded wood carving of the chancel, an ensemble composed of the altarpiece and of the framing of the side paintings, and also the organ and the side-aisle chapels. Special attention should be given to the ornamental stuccos of the vault of the chancel and to the paintings by André Gonçalves and Vieira Lusitano.
