The Parish of the Blessed Sacrament was created in 1584, after the Council of Trento, as an affirmation of faith in the real presence of Christ in Eucharist; the construction of the parish church, however, only started in 1667. After the 1755 earthquake, the renovation works have kept its initial location. In the main façade, special attention should be given to the entrance portico of the primitive temple by Manuel da Costa Negreiros. Its artistic heritage includes paintings by Pedro Alexandrino and José António Narciso, works by the stonemason Sebastião José Alves and several goldsmiths; the organ is the work of Machado e Cerveira.
