The current church, inaugurated in 1911, is a Neoclassical reconstruction of a temple that was demolished to facilitate the construction of the Avenida Almirante Reis. The currently existing building, projected by José Luís Monteiro, has integrated all the 17th Century gilded wood carving from the primitive church, as well as the paintings and the coffered ceiling of the nave, offering the ensemble a decorative unity and richness. It keeps two 16th Century paintings.
