Tomás de Almeida (1670-1754), magnificently portrayed in this painting attributed to Giorgio Domenico Duprà, became famous, above all, for being the first holder of the post of Patriarch of Lisbon. The ninth son of the second Count of Avintes, D. Tomás was born in Lisboa, in 1670, having had a remarkable career in the royal civil service, as well as holding important ecclesiastical positions.
