Description

The primitive church was built during the first quarter of the 13th Century under the invocation of Saint Mary of Alcamim. After a fire that completely destroyed the church, the church was renovated from 1610 until 1672 when the renovation works were completed. The 1755 earthquake caused limited damages, the mannerist façade having been kept, as well as, inside the church, more than 40 paintings by Bento Coelho da Silveira framed in gilded woodcarving and the magnificent paintings of the ceiling of the nave.
